Asian Market Update

Asian shares stepped back on Friday and major currencies mostly stuck to late US levels as investors caught their breath, after Switzerland's unexpected move to abandon its currency cap jolted markets already roiled by plunging commodities prices.

The euro suffered its biggest one-day drop against the Swiss franc in history and skidded to an 11-year low against the US dollar after the Swiss National Bank (SNB) suddenly ditched its commitment to keep its franc above 1.20 per euro.

SGX Singapore Opening Market Update

SINGAPORE share prices opened lower on Friday with the Straits Times Index down 13.31 points to 3,325.53.
Volume was 77.9 million shares valued at S$110.6 million.
Losers outnumbered gainers 69 to 53.

SGX Singapore Closing Market Update

SINGAPORE shares end higher on Thursday.

The Straits Times Index gained 12.68 points to 3,338.84.

Some 1.28 billion shares, valued at S$1.06 billion were traded. 

Gainers numbered 223 while losers numbered 218.
